Butler Peak Ride (Easy Dirt Ride)

This ride takes you to the top of ButlerPeak to the forest service lookout.  Then it laps through Crab Flats and HolcombValley. This is the most spectacular view in all of Big Bear!

Ride length:  48miles (easy ways option) or 56miles (hard ways option).

Ride Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (some Hard on the Hard ways option)

Detailed Description: The ride begins on pavement through town and around the lake to Fawnskin.  The dirt begins out of Fawnskin on forest service road 3N14.  The route turns onto 2N68 and after a small easy creek crossing the route cut up to climb 2N13C.   This route winds up the mountain to 8500 feet at the Butler Peak Lookout. Spectacular views of the entire area.  This is well worth the climb. Take the walk up to the lookout.

The route continues back down the mountain and onto 2N13 "Snow Slide Road". This road follows along the steep sides of the mountain towards "GreenValleyLake".  At Forest Service road 2N54 the rider has a choice between continuing on an "easy ways" or "hard ways" route.

The easy way route continues on pavement through GreenValleyLake and onto HY18 back to Big Bear.

The hard ways route continues on 2N13 towards Crab Flats Road.  Near 3N16 riders will be treated to a couple of miles of Single Track, and a small fun Stream Crossing.   Next the route merges back onto 3N16 and continues along Holcomb Creek, and up through Big Pines Flat. Then it's onto HolcombValley and past Holcomb Valley Campground.   The route then cut down JacobyCanyon to HY18.  From here the route follows paved roads around the east side of BaldwinLake and back to the BMW Club.

Gorgonio Rim Ride(Moderate Dirt Ride)

Ride length: 65 miles (hard way option) or 56 miles (easy way option).

Ride Difficulty: Moderate to Hard

Detailed Description: The ride begins on pavement through BigBearLake and onto dirt at Mill Creek Road. This road winds over the mountain to BluffLake road and continues down off the mountain on the switchbacks of "Clarks Grade".  Next it's through Seven Pines and along the Santa AnaRiver towards Pinezanita.  Then the route follows along the Santa AnaRiver trail up to Angelus Oaks.  You may stop here for a great lunch.  The next segment of the route is pavement and follows the "Rim of the World Scenic Byway" to the junction with Jenks Lake Road.  You may choose to stop and visit JenksLake.  The route continues around and then rejoins "Rim of the World Scenic Byway".  At the 44.3 mile mark the rider has a choice between continuing on an "easy way" or "hard way" route.  The easy way route continues up HY 38 for 12.5 miles and arrives back at the BMW Rally.  The “hard way” route goes left onto dirt at Wildhorse Meadows Road.  This very scenic road cuts back up and over the mountain where it intersects with Sand Canyon Road.  A left turn here takes you back down to BigBearLake. Finally the route continues eastward through town and back to the BMW Rally.
